It’s not exactly a news flash that men dominate the comedy world. Fortunately, Jenny Zigrino is one lady comic who represents. She was a semi-finalist in the Boston Comedy Festival and the Laughing Devil Comedy Festival, performed in the Women in Comedy Festival, and opened for numerous national acts. When not performing, you can catch her in colonial garb giving Freedom Trail tours.
So are stories what you focus on for comedy?
I think I do stories, do you think I do stories? I think I do stories.
And I hate to say observations, but I guess I do stories and thoughts. I do more truth stuff. I don’t [do] one-liners that I write and make up … and I speak the truth, as Russell Brand told me to do … did I tell you my Russell Brand story?
No!
When Russell Brand was in New York for his New York special, I had liked him when I lived in England, so I was super excited. And I’m waiting in line, and I was super in love and ready. And I met him outside and he was surrounded by all of these girls and I was like, “Russell, I love you. I’m going to England, can I do a joke for you? I’m just starting to do comedy.”
And he was like, “Ugh, I don’t have time to have sex with all of these people, let alone listen to your bit.”
And then he sighed again and was like “Ugh, just tell the truth. The truth will set you free. Just be truthful, be truthful.”
And then [he] just made out with the girl next to me. It was pretty humiliating. There’s a picture of me and Russell Brand on my Facebook with me looking like I wanna die and he’s like, “Whatever.”
So he didn’t stay your comic idol then?
Uh, no. No, it’s so funny. I had read my horoscope and it said, “Today you’re gonna learn something about love.” And I was like, “Yeah, that it doesn’t exist.” It’s so stupid.
